Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Huna Totem Corporation is hosting a public comment event regarding Àak’w Landing, Huna Totem’s waterfront development project this Monday evening the 7th.
Hosted at Juneau's Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall from 5 – 7 PM, representatives from Huna Totem and the project’s architectural firm, Jensen Yorba Wall, will address details of the project and then welcome questions and comments from the public in attendance.
Àak’w Landing is a $150 million, mixed-use facility, year-round waterfront development, comprised of 50,000 square feet featuring a cultural welcome center, restaurants, and retail facilities connected to a one-acre park covering a bus turnaround lot and a 100-space car parking garage. The project aligns with the CBJ’s Waterfront Plan, extending the seawalk, creating more community space, and removing tendering cruise ships from the harbor with a new dock while maintaining Juneau’s five-ship limit. Àak’w Landing will also house an additional 40,000 square feet Culture & Science Center in its next stage of development.
“Between NCL public concept meetings to Huna Totem welcoming the subport lot back to Alaska Native ownership, this development has been part of the Juneau waterfront dialog for nearly three years,” said Fred Pardy, Chief Operating Officer, Huna Totem Corporation. “As we move this process before CBJ Planning and Zoning and the Assembly, Huna Totem wants all voices to be heard and the level of detail behind the project before as many Juneau residents as possible.”
The Huna Totem listening event begins at 5 PM with light refreshments and a project overview. Questions and answers will end at 7 PM.
