Councilmember Sandra Ung joined Queens community and business leaders to welcome back the QEDC Kiosk to the 2023 US Open, as well as help launch the new Queens Jazz Trail map. Attendees included Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Seth Bornstein and Rob MacKay of Queens Economic Development Corporation, USTA Managing Director Daniel Zausner, Queens Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Thomas Grech, Queens Together Co-Founder & Executive Director Jonathan Forgash, and Flushing Town Hall Executive and Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek.
Councilmember Sandra Ung joined the Queens Economic Development Corporation and other community and business leaders on August 23 to welcome the QEDC Kiosk back to the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the 11th consecutive year.
“Every year in late summer, hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe make their way to Queens, and more specifically to Flushing’s backyard, for this world-class tennis tournament,” said Councilmember Sandra Ung. “Unfortunately, most of them leave without experiencing any of the other great things that our borough has to offer, like the one-of-a-kind restaurants you won’t find anywhere else in the city that are just one subway stop away in Flushing. This partnership between QEDC and USTA is one way to promote the World’s Borough to the rest of the world.”
The Queens Tourism Council will staff the kiosk with volunteers, who will share information on restaurants, unique businesses, and cultural institutions in Queens. It will be open until the US Open tournament ends on September 10.
The nonprofits Queens Economic Development Corporation and Flushing Town Hall were joined by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Frank Macchio of NY Community Bank at the 2023 US Open to welcome visitors to Queens and promote the borough’s many cultural attractions – including the historic Queens Jazz Trail, commemorated by Flushing Town Hall’s reissued map, which is now back in print and soon to launch digitally. Attendees included Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Assemblyman Steven Raga, Seth Bornstein and Rob MacKay of Queens Economic Development Corporation, USTA Managing Director Daniel Zausner, Queens Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Thomas Grech, Queens Together Co-Founder & Executive Director Jonathan Forgash, and Flushing Town Hall Executive and Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek.
The event also served as an unveiling for the third edition of the Queens Jazz Trail map, which chronicles the contributions the borough played in the history of the art form. The map includes homes where famous musicians lived, the cemeteries where they were laid to rest, and other significant locations that played a part in the rich tradition of jazz in Queens.
